Identifying a Microstar Keg
« on: August 18, 2010, 07:53:09 AM »
I got ahold of Jason at Adventures In Homebrewing and talked about having some couplers welded onto my kegs to replace the weldless fittings that I currently have. He said they don't accept any Microstar kegs without documented proof that they were obtained legally... so my question is how do I know if the kegs that I currently have (one Miller, the other Coors) are Microstar kegs or not? I do not see any logos/branding on them for Microstar.

Nate

Microstar is a keg rental business. Their kegs are marked well.

OK that's what I thought... I know I've seen their kegs at bars before. I shouldn't have any problems, just need to figure out when I can drive up to Taylor.

Thanks!

Dropped kegs off this morning... guy who helped me out wasn't too sure they could do it since I already had hole drilled for my weldless bulkheads I had been using for a year now. I told him Jason didn't seem to think it would be a problem, and I've seen kegs with the couplings welding in the center and flush to the keg wall and that I didn't care which they did as long as the threads weren't messed up.

He said he'd have Jason give me a call once he had a chance to look at them. I'm going to be upset if I drove up there for nothing (and have to drive back up there to get my kegs with nothing done to them).  >:(

Nate,  I can pick the kegs up for you. I'll be going there in the week to get some ingredients.  That might only work out if they can't do the welding.  'cause if they do the work, you may want to check it out before you take them.   I work in Dearborn so it's not much a side trip to stop by on my way home...

Thanks; I plan on giving Jason a call tomorrow to see if he's taken a look at it and I'll let you know. Hopefully there won't be any issues as I really need to get these done!

Spoke with Jason over my lunch break... he said that he didn't think it would be a problem. He said he was going to take them over to the shop tonight and would let me know for sure tomorrow.

Kegs are officially done and ready to be picked up... was hoping they would be open Sunday as I was going to head up to Slows BBQ for lunch with the wife, but they aren't (good thing I asked). Guess I'll have to figure out some way to get up there early this week!
